Viborg Kunsthal

Viborg Art Center is an exhibition space for living and innovative contemporary art located centrally in Viborg overlooking picturesque Sondersø (South Lake).

Viborg Art Center would like their exhibition space for international contemporary art to explore and challenge the boundaries where new art arises. The art centers exhibitions present a range of media such as video, painting, installation, sound and performance. Viborg Art Center is housed in an atmospheric historic building from 1734. In the 1800’s it was used to produce schnapps, hence the Centers previous name, Brænderi gården (Distillery Farm). Since then the buildings have been used for among other things, an alcoholic clinic, a home for the mentally frail and living quarters. The building was converted into an art center in 1994 and underwent extensive renovation in 2008.

The art center presents changing exhibitions by renowned Danish and international artists and have a range of simultaneous events related to the exhibitions. Among other things, artists talks, lectures, concerts, and workshops for adults and children. Furthermore, the art center features an art school with classrooms, an artist residency and two studios where artists can live and work. There is also a bookshop, café and the Centers gardens are surrounded by a wall with a 700m2 mosaic decoration by the Danish artist Mette Wincklemann.

Viborg Art Center became a member of the Danish Association of Art Centers in January 2001.
