The Art Center KunstCentret Silkeborg Bad is an international art center located in the (rural) countryside at Arnakkekilden outside Silkeborg in buildings that used to house the Silkeborg Baths. KunstCentret Silkeborg Bad presents alternating Danish and international art exhibitions, preferably with livingartists. The five buildings, situated in the park, are the former health resort and together with the park and the bath facility comprise a unique cultural environment.
The establishment of Silkeborg Bath Resort was the beginning of Silkeborgs hey day as a spa town. The spa activities stopped in 1983, when the resort went bankrupt. The baths by then had been active for a hundred years. The KunstCentret Silkeborg was established in 1992. A sculpture park surrounds the art center and individual sculptures have been on display in the park since 1929. Today the buildings are renovated so that the exterior facades appear in their original condition.
The interiorrenovation has created space for contemporary purposes. The name "KunstCentret Silkeborg" thus reflects bothpast and present. Through changing exhibitions throughout the year, primarily with contemporary art, there exists a dynamic environment for the visual arts, all with respect for the locations historical and natural surroundings.
KunstCentret Silkeborg became a member of the Danish Association of Art Centers in 2000.
