Fotografisk Center

Fotografisk Center is an association founded by theCopenhagen European Cultural Capitol 1996 and the City of Copenhagen in 1996. Fotografisk Center was until Spring 2014 located at Carlsberg’s Tap E but will in future presenta more mobile exhibition concept [On The Go] in collaboration with other Art Centers.

Fotografisk Center’s primary purpose is to spread awareness and increase interest in photography, from
photography as an art form to photojournalism; our focus is on contemporary art photography. Fotografisk Center produces six to eight exhibitions yearly with Danish and international photography and related practices such asvideo and film art with a special focus on the Nordic region.

The exhibitions alternate between solo presentations and thematic group exhibitions. Fotografisk Center was established in 1996 as part of Copenhagen European Cultural Capitol 1996 and is the first institution solely devoted to the photographic medium. Until 2009, Fotografisk Center was located at Gammel Strand, but moved out in connection with a major renovation to Carlsberg Tap E. In addition to the exhibitions, Fotografisk Center includes a digital workspace, The Digital Room, whe reprofessional photographers and visual artists can work with the latest digital processes.

Furthermore Fotografisk Center cooperates with DJ:Fotograferne (a group within the Danish Union of Journalists) on Foto Forum, a series of lectures on photography that normally relate to current exhibitions but can also be more general in character with regard to photography in practice. The idea is to create a forum for debate.
